Although today was filled with exhausting wind and rain as well as massive clouds of some sort of small black flies, it was still the most enjoyable riding day I've ever had (apart from the days with my wife on the back of the bike). I can't even pinpoint why it was such a great day either. I just had a stupid smile on my face all day long. :) The first part of the day was spent riding at an angle equivalent to that when the bike is on its sidestand! Did I mention it was windy? After a few hours, I arrived at Lake Michigan or as it should be called... Black Fly Lake. I'm not completely sure they are flies but it doesn't really matter when you have to count them in scientific notation. All that matters is that you get away from their home. What I've seen of Michigan is beautiful but I simply could not live anywhere near those bugs... not with a motorcycle in the garage that is!
If I had to guess the reason behind the big grin today, it would probably be the variety. I had long straightaways, twisties, small communities, small highways and roads (as opposed to Interstates like the last few days), rain, wind, forests, lakes, farmland, thousands of cows, silos and barns... pretty much everything. What a great day. I truly am one of the luckiest people in the world. Thank you. :) |
